The Thanksgiving holiday provides an excellent opportunity for me to express my gratitude and appreciation for all that you do to support our schools, our students, and our larger community. Each one of you contributes to the overall success of the Watertown Public Schools, and for that, I am most thankful.
On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to see our students on either end of the school continuum. The Early Steps Preschool hosted its annual preschool Thanksgiving Brunch where the children and families gathered to celebrate the holiday, to participate in engaging activities, and to show off their beautiful artwork. From there, I made it over to Watertown High School to attend a bit of the Pep Rally, enjoying some spirited competition amongst the classes, such as the famed Tug of War. It was impressive to go from being surrounded by the 3- and 4-year-olds to the packed gymnasium at the high school, providing me with a deep sense of pride for all that the Watertown Public Schools represents.
And just last week, our high school drama students presented “Alice in Wonderland,” a fantastically modern interpretation of this classic tale. Our talented students wowed the crowd at all three performances with their perfect timing, humor, and presence. I have a new appreciation for Alice in Wonderland and would have to say that it was by far my most favorite version of the story that I have ever seen.
The traditional Thanksgiving football game proved to be a testament to the dedication of our student-athletes, coaches, parents, and fans as they braved temperatures that were as cold as they could have been for this almost century-old tradition. Despite the outcome, this was a game that will be remembered for quite some time!
These are just a few examples that demonstrate the depth of commitment that the WPS community has for the success of our students outside of the classroom as well as inside. I appreciate all of the hard work that went into making these highly successful events happen.
Tomorrow, November 26, I will be hosting my November coffee on the third floor of the Phillips Administration Building, located at 30 Common Street from 9:00-10:00 am or from 7:00-8:00 pm. Also, the Watertown School Building Committee will be holding a Community Forum at the Lowell Elementary School on Wednesday, November 28 at 6:00 p.m.
