World Conflicts and the Watertown School Community

In recent days, we have seen the tragic escalation of violence in the ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza. Watertown is home to families who have ties to Israel, Palestine, and the larger Middle East region who may have been impacted by these events.

The Israeli/Palestinian conflict is just one of many that touch the lives of our families in Watertown, including the strife in Azerbaijan on the Armenian border, the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, as well as many other conflicts in the larger geopolitical landscape.

I want to assure you that one of our greatest priorities in the Watertown Public Schools is to ensure that each member of our community feels respected and accepted, and has a strong sense of belonging within our community, regardless of political, cultural, or religious beliefs. If at any time you have concerns about your child(ren) or your family’s well-being, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child(ren)’s principal or a trusted school-based adult. Guidance counselors, social workers, and school psychologists are prepared to assist in whatever way is most helpful.

The following resources may be useful as you navigate this complex time with your child or children:
